Additional Daytona 500 Info

The Daytona 500 is one of the most popular and well known NASCAR Races in the world.  Held each February in Daytona Beach Florida, more than 100,000 NASCAR fans flock to the gates of Daytona International Raceway with their Daytona 500 Tickets in hand.

The 2020 race will be the 75th iteration of the 200 Lap, 500-mile race- and will continue to be one of the most important NASCAR Races of the season. The Great American Race as it is known, is the first race of the year in what is currently the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, and is considered one of the five crown jewels in the series.

The Daytona 500 has become synonymous with not only NASCAR, but also with auto racing in general.  And Daytona International has become one of the most globally recognized race tracks, and currently hosts 7 NASCAR Races Annually, 4 Races in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, two races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and 1-each in the Camping World Truck Series and the ARCA Series.

The Daytona 500’s inaugural race was in 1959 when Lee Petty took the checkered flag after 200 laps in his Oldsmobile.  In the time since the first race, hundreds of drivers have ventured to the sandy Tri-Oval on Florida's Atlantic Coast each February.  Since that first race, Lee Petty’s son Richard Petty has become the winningest driver in Daytona 500 history, with 7 trips to the winners circle.
